Welcome! Please see the “About” page for more info on who we are and what we do. We’re Sally & Mike, innkeepers of Blue Skies Inn in Manitou Springs, Colorado, situated at the base of Pikes Peak. That’s Pikes Peak pictured at the top in a Fall photo taken from our driveway. We’re located on 2.5 acres of land on Fountain Creek just off Manitou Avenue, though the actual B&B buildings are about a football field away from the avenue in a little scrub oak forest. We’re all about handpainted, themed suites and gardens.
Winter is hard on Sally – gardeners don’t react well to snow. Right now, we’re eagerly waiting for Spring. But the snowdrops are up (see below), and we’re encouraged. We expect our first crocuses (crocusi?) in about ten days. Feel free to add comments.

i know there are more beautiful flowers than that
Hi Zach,
Yup. The iris are up. But the snowdrops were first!

Mike & Sally,
Dan & I have been thinking of you and hoping we can come up this summer.
How are the gardens coming? I can’t wait to see what you have done now. I’m sure it’s beautiful with all the water this year.
Hi Francine & Dan,
I’m stunned. I thought only Russians were reading this blog. My spam file runneth over.
You’re right about the gardens. “Add water” is the operative instruction. Everything came up. In fact, it’s been raining so much, we haven’t had much time to weed. Right now there are ash and Siberian elm shoots tucked in everywhere. We’re debating whether to hire a forester to hack ‘em down, or just let them grow. I wouldn’t mind living in a forest.
But Sally would. She’s relentless too, so I guess it’s back to high-desert gardening for us.
At any rate, yes, everything is lush and beautiful. In particular, the Woodland Garden has been extended and upgraded. There is a new waterfall garden out there (since last Friday), and we’ve set up many picnic and breakfast areas under the trees. The gardens now encircle the inn on three sides – you can travel graveled-in route from the 1873 Carriage House, through the woods behind Building 3 up to the Woodland Garden area, then across the new bridge through the tent garden and up the hill by the hillside waterfall. From there it’s a kind of woodsy walk down to the hot tub gazebo.
I’ll have pictures up pretty soon at http://www.pikespeakwedding.com
They’ll be wedding pictures. I’m about seven weddings behind in getting pictures up, but keep an eye out for new weddings. The pictures will give you some idea of what the gardens look like, especially the new aspects of the Woodland Garden.
Thanks for thinking of us! Come visit soon.
Best,
Sal & Mike
